Add to Your Business’ Green Credentials
For Immediate Release - April 09, 2010
(New Bern, NC) Operating a business in an environmentally-friendly way is always on the minds of business owners. This is because businesses who think “green” are getting ahead in the marketplace these days. With Earth Day right around the corner, one local expert says one easy way to “go green” is to take a look at changing the way you manage and dispose files and records.
“No matter what size or type of a business you’re involved with, chances are you have boxes full of files in a storage room or basement. And most likely, those files are full of confidential information that, at some point, will need to be disposed of. “Too often those old files end up in our already packed landfills, which presents several problems,” said Gail Bisbee, president/CEO of CRMI. “Not only is that bad for the environment, it poses a security problem for your business. In order to get a handle on your files in an eco-friendly manner, a records management and shredding plan should be established. For an additional “green” option, consider moving towards a paperless office altogether by utilizing software designed to manage hard copy files that have been converted into electronic format.”
Bisbee says when businesses are looking to go digital with records, seek a solution that will convert all files, no matter what the original format may be, into an electronic format. Then, all files will be housed through a secure, content management system which acts as the new virtual file room. “You’ll save on printing and storage costs, not to mention time spent searching for misplaced files,” she said. “You’re also doing your part by helping keep our air clean, reducing the amount of trees being cut down and preserving water.”
Turn Your Office Processes Green
For businesses considering adopting a digital solution or are needing shredding services, Bisbee says to ask the following questions before selecting a vendor:
- How long have you been offering document conversion services?
- What are the available options for a record conversion and the costs associated?
- What security and auditing features are available?
- Is what they’re offering fully compatible with your computer software?
- Do they offer on-site and off-site shredding services?
- Does shredding waste get recycled?
“It’s important you find a comprehensive business that specializes in document management and destruction services; since not all will have services that are compatible with your records or that are eco-friendly in their approach to shredding,” said Bisbee.
Bisbee says it may seem overwhelming to tackle all this on your own, so she suggests partnering with a firm that specializes in eco-friendly document management and destruction services. “They can help ensure things are being done right and in an environmentally friendly way,” said Bisbee.
So this Earth Day, consider establishing a “green” records management policy. It’ll improve efficiencies, make your business more secure and you’ll be kinder to the environment
